Mixed-Bed Ion Exchange Filters of the FSD Series

Mixed-bed filters with internal regeneration (FSDVr) are designed for final water polishing after reverse osmosis units and/or H–OH ion exchange filters. Systems equipped with an FSD-based polishing block allow production of water that meets the most stringent quality requirements.

The specific resistivity of deionized water at the FSD outlet is at least 18 MΩ·cm. During operation, periodic regeneration of the filters with acid and alkali is required. A single FSD provides deionized water capacity from 0.25 to 200 m3/h. Typically, blocks are supplied consisting of at least two filters, ensuring continuous system operation. The standard configuration is an FSDVr system with manual regeneration; however, FSD systems with automated regeneration can also be supplied.

The standard scope of supply of the block includes the following equipment:

  • corrosion-resistant filter vessel made of polymer materials with a drainage system and ion-exchange media (cation resin/anion resin);
  • conductivity sensor — 2 pcs;
  • pressure sensors — 4 pcs;
  • flow sensors — 2 pcs;
  • PVC/PP piping and chemically resistant shut-off valves.

Optional equipment:

  • feed pumping stations with variable frequency drive;
  • storage tank with level sensors;
  • chemical handling system (solution preparation area).

Depending on specific operating conditions and Customer requirements, the equipment configuration may be modified.

Main operating conditions for FSD blocks:

  • electrical parameters — 380 V, 50 Hz, 1–45 kW;
  • feed water pressure — from 1.5 to 4.0 atm;
  • ambient air temperature — 5–35°C;
  • availability of a drainage system and a storage tank.

Water supplied to the FSD must have undergone primary desalination (reverse osmosis or H–OH ion exchange filters) and decarbonization. To reduce the frequency of mixed-bed filter regeneration, two-stage reverse osmosis or two-stage ion exchange may be applied.

The technical data table lists the main characteristics of the base FSD models. Upon the Customer’s request, units with parameters different from those listed in the table can be manufactured (capacity from 0.25 to 200 m3/h).
